“It’s In The Constitution”

Debate on universal background checks is ongoing as I write.  As Senator Coburn just said “the Second Amendment isn’t going away.”  As if the Senate and House could simply vote away, repeal the Second Amendment.  Any amendment or repeal to the Constitution must be ratified or defeated by a three fourths majority vote of the States [Article V].  The likelihood of the repeal of the Second Amendment is nil, less than zero.  Still, this is the argument that republicans, the NRA, and avid gun owners are making.  We are coming to take their guns away.  The government is coming to confiscate everyone’s guns.

It’s in the Constitution” is what a close childhood friend said to me yesterday.  I agreed with him, but I stated that isn’t what is being debated in Congress.  Just background checks, keep guns out of the hands of criminals.  He kept yelling “it’s in the Constitution.”  There is no reason a citizen needs an assault weapon.  He was incredulous.

“have you forgotten the Second Amendment? That amendment is the one right after the First Amendment, guaranteeing free speech.”  I guess he  feels our Founding Fathers figured the Second Amendment was pretty important because you can’t “support the First without the Second.  Remember, George Washington didn’t defeat the British by talking to them.  He shot them. They want to ban all private possession of guns. The primary reason for the Second Amendment was and is to protect citizens from tyrannical government, not to protect hunters.  Some say, how can you protect yourself from the state? Well, if you can’t match their firepower, then you lose.”   I was beside myself.  My evil twin sister was about to show up.

Constitutional rights are not absolute.  They never have been.  They are limited by the rights of others.  The Courts have upheld limitations numerous times.  We have freedom of speck, but that is limited by laws against slander and inciting riots and violence.  We have freedom of the press, but that is limited by libel laws and laws against false advertising etc. There are , in some cities, limitations banning   political signs on public property and how long such signs may be placed on private property.

If taken literally, the Second Amendment give a person the right to bear arms only if he or she is a member of a well-regulated militia, generally considered an arm of the state or federal governments.  An argument also could be made that while the amendment gives the right to bear arms, it says nothing about the right to fire those arms. Presumably, that right would come about only if the individual got the command while a member of the aforesaid militia.  Uncle Sam wants and needs you.

Sounds of Silence: La Pierre and Friends

The NRA and its supporters have gone into hiding.  Oh yes their is talk from their clones, Huckabee, Fischer and Erick Erickson [Red state].  They talk of God, or the lack there of.  They tell us that God wasn’t wanted and so did not go to Sandy Hook Elementary School.  God killed these children.  So Fischer and Huckabee state.  Good Christians that they are.  Still, they have nothing on Erick Erickson, who not only blames God, but also single parents.  The collapse of the American Family.  So it is God and single parenthood that picked up the guns and shot their way into a school and killed 28 people.  It is remarkable.

I found the RedState argument remarkable, not because I had not heard it before, but because I was hearing it now at murder of 20 innocent children.  He even goes so far as to equate this with King Herod’s killing of the innocents, the birth of Jesus was answered by this world with the loss of the innocents.  Was he implying that this was an act of God and the second coming of Christ?  That all single parents, the collapse of the American family,  were in reality the newest version of King Herod?

He doesn’t want to discuss gun control, because gun control will not end the violence.  He doesn’t want to discuss mental health.  He just wants to say that the mentally ill boy that killed these children would not have done so if he had come from a stable traditional family.  Which is of course crapola.  The Columbine killers came from stable traditional homes, and yet they killed.  So he blames single parents.

I was afraid of an argument such as this.  I thought it would be a different argument, one of don’t take my Second Amendment Right away, don’t take my guns away from me.  I thought they would be willing to have a meaningful discussion on ways to manage guns and the ease in which they can be obtained.  An open and frank talk about mental health.  I was prepared to declare that I don’t want to take their guns away from law abiding citizens.  I don’t want to end the Second Amendment.  Only that this madness must stop.

I knew that I would have to be careful.  Not to rush to condemnation of all gun owners.  In each case of mass shootings, the immediate response is that we need more security and more guns.  I expected this manner of conversation.  I didn’t expect to defend God and single parents and the mentally ill.

How many times do we hear “it doesn’t happen here.”  We should know that has never been true.   What does that really say?  That it only happens in large cities, LA, NYC, Chicago and New Orleans?  Cities with large black and Hispanic populations and huge crime rates?  We know that isn’t true.

Now, it is different.  All of us are outraged that five and six year old children were gunned down.  Now, we are finally determined to act.  Rightly so, but it diminishes those killed at Virginia Tech, Columbine, Springfield, Oregon, Aurora, Colorado and on the streetsw in cities, large and small, all over America.   Our outrage is great now.  High school students and college students gunned down only brought muted outrage all those years ago.  Shame on us.  Killer older students seems a more acceptable shooting of human beings.  Shame, Shame on all of us.

We must turn our attention toward the National Rifle Association.  They have a choke hold on both houses of Congress, Democrats and Repbulicans.  Until that ends things will not change.  Oppose the NRA and you will be crushed and destroyed.  In an earlier post I called Congress cowards, and cowards they remain.  Money is so more important than the lives of their constituents.  And now those cowards have run away.  Silent as the grave.

Instead we are blessed with likes of Fischer, Huckabee and Erick Erickson.  Each invoking God. A God who kills.  Single parents who raise killers.  But wait, maybe we should do for them what they aren’t willing to do for others….Help the mentally ill.

Ohio Diary #17: Turn Out The Vote – Prove Ohio Isn’t All Racist

The day is almost here.  If you haven’t voted early, do it now.  Get out the vote.

Now you may say Ohio isn’t racist not just Ohio but Florida, Pennsylvania and all other red states.  Voter suppression is racist.  They know if they can keep democrats from the polls they will win the election.  Over these many months we have been “informed” by the press and media about the “horse race” with no real discussion of policy and racism.  Like television, they are only interested in entertainment and not knowledge.  Selling newspapers is so much more important.

Hatred and racism is the hallmark of the republican party.  It is what they do best.  They have told so many lies that that believe them to be fact.  So many lies that it has shown itself for what it truly is……….Racist.  It is not new and we should already know this.  It is only now more obvious.  A black man is President, living in the Whitehorse.  Billboards in poor and black neighborhoods, lies about voter ID and then there is Trick the Vote [ True the Vote].  True the Vote is an oxymoron for republicans.  For them there is no truth in the voting process.  They promised to follow the Constitution and then pervert it.  They say they are Christians, but speak hatred and racism.  Hypocrites and contradictory positions.  New Left Media said it best:

Well, perhaps the capacity to hold so many contradictory beliefs at once reflects the fact that the public school curriculum has become solely oriented around series of standardized tests, robbing a large portion of our citizenry (among other things) of the capacity for critical thinking skills. Or maybe it is because the internet has enabled people to exist in completely different social and political realities wherein they seek out and find only the type of information that will confirm their pre-existing worldviews. Or maybe it’s because local media has essentially collapsed and the mainstream media, interested less in delivering the news than in acting as faithful defenders of the status quo, is unable to effectively help the public to thoroughly vet the Republican nominee.

The republicans are not meant to think.  Just follow.  So, it is time to get out the vote.  We can stand in line for hours to get into a football game, so we can stand and wait to vote.  Your vote is so much important.  Don’t get tricked.  Stand up for all of us, women, the poor, the middle-class!!!!!  We need to make American proud of herself.

Shut The Flock Up!!!!!

Well, Mom, to answer your question… some people get the warm and fuzzies thinking about what wonderful, compassionate progressives they are. It just feels so damn good to be so open-minded and CONCERNED about all of these poor VICTIMS in our society. Unfortunately for “progressives”, socialistic ideas have been proven failures throughout history, time and again. Europe is a mess at the verge of utter collapse. Libs love to cite European countries where the lifestyle is supposedly better than ours. These countries are about the size of Vermont, so whoopee whoo for them. Maybe socialism works for a country with a population of 200. Meanwhile, the U.S. props up the world economically and militarily and pays for it by borrowing from China. If people think the “progressive” way is so wonderful, I’m sure Cuba would happily accept them…it’s only a short boat ride away after all.

The above was taken from a Facebook message sent in response to her stating that some people thing that if you are not in favor of every social program thought up you must not be compassionate.  Several people commented.  They were of both parties.  But this girl went after the “progressives” and liberals.  She needs to shut the flock up.

She made an unwarranted attack.  It is obvious that she does not know very much about the affordable healthcare act, Europe, North America, and socialism.  This is reminiscent of the Vietnam War days in reverse…..if you were against the war you were a communist.  Does anybody remember “Love it or leave it”?  So we have come to that now.  But even in her rant above she lies.  Libs do not site European countries where the lifestyle is better than ours.  What we do cite is that the healthcare in all these countries is so much better than ours.  Germany, France, Greece, Spain, Italy and let’s not forget Canada,  are not the size of Vermont, and their populations exceed her 200 standard.  And we should self-deport….to Cuba.  This is the mentality in the state of Ohio.  This is my front and backyard.  Their only recourse is to degrade and denounce democrats, progressives and liberals.

If you don’t like the truth, then make up your own.  Lie about the lies you told.  Live in a parallel universe if you can’t accept the truth.  For this girl real facts are not acceptable.  It is what they do.  They have no argument, no logical argument, so they go off the reservation and declare that we are all socialists and love Stalin.  She even uses the word Romney made famous VICTIMS.  They just buy into the we are leeches theory.  She like so many others has seen and heard the Devil, and she believes.

What did you think the Devil is going to look like if he’s around? Nobody is going to be taken in if he has a long, red pointy tail.  No. I’m serious here. He will look attractive and he will be nice and helpful and he will get a job where he influences a great God-fearing nation and he will never do an evil thing…..he will just bit by bit lower standards where they are important. Just coax along flash over substance…..just a tiny bit.    Broadcast News

They have forgotten how to persuade people who don’t agree with them.  They have created their own environment and remain entrenched inside it.  They only listen to themselves and of course the Devil. They just lie about everything   Deniers about everything.  They lie about their lies.  The biggest error of the Conservatives  the Republican Party was naming Paul Ryan as Romney’s running mate  They did it simply because Ryan had a “policy” a budget, a plan.  Romney obviously has none.  Unless you count trying to take President Obama’s.  But remember, if you are a liberal, a Democrat, a progressive you are scum…..a socialist that needs to be put a ship and sent to Cuba.  A modern-day voyage of the damned.

Still, for all their talk I feel this all comes down to race.  They wont shout it out, but it is truly white against white.  Rich against poor, middle-class, women, veterans  Latinos and working families.  Just consider the extreme effort republicans have taken to eliminate voters, violate women, starve families, deprive veterans, the elderly and all hard-working Americans.  We are progressives and we should disappear.  That is their vision.

Mass Burial for Republican Party

“Truth is Treason”

In a free society we’re supposed to know the truth,” Paul said. “In a society where truth becomes treason, then we’re in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it.”

Now I know this quote is a couple of years old, and about Wiki leaks, but somehow it applies here as it concerns The Rat and The Roach[okay,[Romney and Ryan].  They have sent the Stooge out again.  Just look at what they have her saying now after VP Joe Biden’s truthful comments.  You could say they were a little strong, but they were the truth.  There is just no use kidding ourselves what Rat/Roach really wants for America.  When he stands and looks out at his supporters and the real American public he sees not working America, he sees criminals that need to be punished with more taxes and poverty.  He sees dangerous parasites and leeches preparing to strike at the heart and soul of the Great American System that put them where they are now.   More about this later, now back to the Stooge, aka Andrea “Stooge”Saul.
What was so terrible about what Vice President Biden said:
They’ve said it.  Every Republican’s voted for it.  Look at what they they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing.  Romney wants to let the — he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules — unchain Wall Street,” Biden said.  “They’re going to put y’all back in chains. He’s said he going to do nothing about stopping the practice of outsourcing.”
Republicans have spoken for these 2 years and more to the need to “unshackle” the private sector from regulations.  Mind you the private sector, meaning the citizens, working class families, women, blacks, illegal immigrants, immigrants, and poor people remain shackled to high taxes, joblessness, and poverty.
Their record speaks for itself:  the war on women, voter suppression, personhood bills, heartbeat bills and you see the compulsion to return women, blacks and immigrants to lives of slavery, chained and shackled to the whims of white rich men.
And the Stooge response:
After weeks of slanderous and baseless accusations leveled against Gov. Romney, the Obama campaign has reached a new low, the Stooge said. The commends made by the vice president of the United States are not acceptable in our political discourse and demonstrate yet again that the Obama campaign will say and do anything to win this election.
When Obama backed Biden the Stooge said:
In case anyone was wondering just how low President Obama could go in his campaign for reelection, we now know he’s willing to say that Governor wants to put people back in chains, Whether it’s accusing Mitt Romney of being a felon, having been responsible for a woman’s tragic death or now wanting to put people in chains, there’s no question that because of the president’s failed record he’s been reduced to a desperate campaign based on division and demonization.
Felon?  The Rat did that to himself.  Won’t release tax returns, so he must be hiding something he doesn’t want anyone to know.  Responsible for a woman’s tragic death?  I didn’t hear that.  It said no health insurance to help his wife during this illness.  He lost his job thanks to the Rat.  She, herself said:
“If people had been in Massachusetts, under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care,” said Saul
All the Rat/Roach campaign can do is lie.  If they were even remotely to consider telling the truth it would be treason.  Truth is something that the Republican party has no interest in. They are incapable of doing so.    Hubris.  Narcissism.
I for one am so tired of their self-serving, self-indulgent, selfish and self-righteous outrage and lies.  They have no comprehension of what the truth is.  The Rat just lies.  It is what the Rat does every day of his life, on purpose, as a matter of policy, and a perfect expression of everything he stands for.

“I Need You to Vote for Romney and Save America”

I was attending church a week ago and a “friend” called me over and said “I need for you to vote for Romney and save America.”  Now mind you this man knows I am a Democrat, usually vote that way, and think for myself regardless of who I vote for.  Still, I was surprised.  First, I thought it was a joke, but I could see by the look on his face he was quite serious.  Still, believing this was still a joke, my response was: “Vote for Romney……..George Romney.  No wait, he’s dead. Oh what is it I don’t know.”  He did not see the humor in it.

Like four years ago, Republicans in Ohio are  becoming desperate.  I mean desperate.  They have sold their souls to the republican party and RNC.  They are whores for whores.  Like lemmings they recite the loyalty oath to the party and sing the praises of Willard the Rat.  Mittens is the rat.  He has been trained by the republican party to kill the party.  I know it was on its last leg after McCain, but now it is barely breathing.  It is stunning.  The more I see, the more my heart is filled with happiness.

Think of it as road to salvation.  It is how it was presented to me after all in church, God etc.  What better place to plead and pray for Rat votes.  They were telling me that if I donate just $5.00 to “The Rat”  I could begin to pay my way to salvation.  The Rat’s own website states it:  Learn The Truth:  Sign up to receive emails with the truth.  Imagine it, straight from God himself….the truth.  Donate $5.00 and you get more.  Only the more is a surprise.  Even the baby rats the run big Rats’ show don’t know.  Since the Rats all lie it can only be true that this is a lie too.

To prove his faith and hope of salvation, the Rat put out this campaign :

It was never meant to be used as a political platform, but here he is touting how he saved the 2002 Olympics and Salt Lake City, the bastion of Mormonism.  The Rat tells lies, lies and more lies.  What is past comprehending is why people believe him.  It must be the thought of salvation that is too great to resist.  Get your ticket to ride everybody.

I think this is really what he is saying.

Ohio Diary #11: The Columbus Dispatch’s Fake News: Kasich Wants To Negotiate SB 5

First you must never trust your local newspaper or TV channel.  They will only tell you one side of the story, or as in the Columbus Dispatch story; just make it up.

I must tell you that there was a time, a very long time ago, that the Columbus Dispatch was an excellent newspaper.  They printed the facts and told it from both points of view.  Now, it seems that their political bias is more important.

All this past week, the Dispatch has been running a story of how regrettable and unfortunate it is that labor won’t sit down and try to work out a comprise on
Senate Bill 5.  Senate Bill 5 is the anti-union, anti-collective bargaining bill that has been passed, and signed by the Governor.  It is has yet to be implemented because it is to be on the November ballot to repealed.  It is a story designed to present Kasich as willing to compromise but labor as unbending and unyielding.  It is a fake.

Here is what the Dispatch Editorial said:

On Sunday, a Dispatch editorial called for proponents and opponents of Senate Bill 5 to reach a compromise that would require public employees to pay more for their health care and pensions but would strip away the bill’s provisions that aren’t related to controlling government costs.

Yesterday, sources told Dispatch reporters that informal discussions between two people affiliated with the defense of Senate Bill 5 and representatives from the Ohio Education Association and the AFL-CIO took place about six weeks ago, but labor backed away.

On Sunday the Dispatch’s editorial page said the offer came from Governor Kasich, but the news division subtly backed away and said it was two people affiliated with the defense of Senate Bill 5.  They weren’t from the Governor’s office after all.  It explains why labor wouldn’t consider talking to them.  Who were these two people negotiating?  How did the editorial board seem to know about this so-called deal before the newsroom? It is very simple…because the Dispatch essentially was one of the people representing pro-SB 5 interests at the meeting.  Mike Curtin, former Vice-Chairman of the Dispatch Printing Company and Curt Steiner, former OSU lobbyist, former Voinovich chief-of-staff pushed the “We Are Ohio” campaign on the possibility of working out a deal with Kasich to avoid having to have a referendum issue.

What could they promise to the unions?  They have no authority to negotiate a deal that requires the involvement of the GOP legislature and Kasich.  It was an attempt to make the unions and the “We Are Ohio” campaign look unreasonable.  It was an imaginary story.  All in the minds of Curtin and Steiner.

But guess what?  Kasich played along.  He held an alleged” negotiation meeting yesterday, and  no one showed up.   There sat Kasich and his aides, all of three people, and no one came.  Taking his lead from the Dispatch, he assailed the unions for refusing to negotiate a deal on SB 5.

In a letter from We Are Ohio to the Governor, they simply stated that they would not negotiate until the bill in its current form was repealed.  They urged the Governor to call the legislature back and repeal the law.

This is a publicity stunt on Kasich’s part.  He is trouble, polls show him in the toilet and sinking fast.  He has seen what has gone on in Wisconsin and is afraid as he should be.  He is a beggar.  He had a chance to meet with the unions in February, when the bill was being debated.  Kasich outright refused to meet with unions six months ago.  Kasich has said: “I’ve listened. I’ve heard. I’ve made a decision.” That was the end of it.  Until now that is.

Kasich is now the ludicrous spectacle that he deserves to be.  He was negotiating with himself.  He had help though.

Kasich’s arrogance shows through with this blatant attempt to attack unions and weaken support for the Democratic party.  He did not do this by himself. He had partisan support of members of the house and senate. They are equally responsible for being sheep and blindly following their leader down the path to destruction.

Back to the Columbus Dispatch.  The Dispatch tried to broker a deal on SB 5. Then the Dispatch follows up the editorial advocating for someone to try to attempt a deal with a news story that such an attempt as advocated by the Dispatch was tried, but labor walked away.  Not one time did they state that one of the most influential figures at the Dispatch just happens to be behind the effort to broker a deal and then the editorial lecturing labor to make such a deal.  It was all lies.  You might even call it yellow journalism.

Not since William Randolph Hearst and now Rupert Murdoch has a media outlet been more interested in making the news than reporting it.  It is more than just a story about a medial outlet having a political bias in its coverage of a story.  This is simply about a media outlet becoming the story.

This is  about a media outlet that lies about its role in creating the news and, in so doing, failing to disclose relevant evidence that puts that story in its proper context.

The truth is simple:  There was no offer from Governor Kasich.  There was an attempt by powerful people, Mike Curtin and Curt Steiner to try and avoid an issue that could cause lasting damage to the Republican Party in Ohio.  And when they, who had absolutely nothing to offer in the deal, didn’t get two labor leaders to immediately leap at the chance to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, they let loose the Dispatch on them.

The Dispatch just isn’t in the sewer for John Kasich.  On Sunday and all this week, they said they actually represent him in official government matters.

Newspapers were supposed to be truth tellers.  They were supposed to inform the people. They were supposed to be unbiased.  Those days are gone.

Now, they hack your tweets, listen to your phone messages, and make up news.

Shame on them.  Shame on us.

A special thanks to Plunderbund for part of this story.

Republicans Promised Job Creation: Just Not In America

First, about the Norquist statement of yesterday.  It is all just bovine scatalogy.  He knows it isn’t a tax increase.  Still, Republicans heard the voice of their god yesterday and bowed down in abject stupidity.  It is simple, they will just expire.  If they simply do nothing, they will expire at the end of next year.  Obama caved once and let them be renewed, gutless wonder that he can be.  One can only wonder how much more he will give the Republicans.  That though is for another post.

When Republicans took control last year, they promised to creat jobs.  This was their primary platform.  To do this they also promised no new taxes, and to continue to cut taxes for corporations and the rich.  As said above, Obama caved, and let the teapublicans have their way and win that round. The Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 were renewed.

Their theory?  Giving huge amounts of money to big corporations and the wealthiest would enable them to invest in new businesses, expand existing ones and bring greater prosperity to the rest of us.  Has it worked?

Now, then years later, we should examine what has happened.

When the last round of these cuts were passed in 2003, the administration, that’s George W., predicted that, by the end of 2004, they would create 5.5 million jobs. Even George, admitted that, even without the tax cuts, the economy would most likely add 4.1 million jobs.

The result?  2.6 million jobs. In fact, the job creation record of George’s first term was among the worst since Hoover. The numbers are even worse than they appear since many jobs came from increased military spending on wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Housing and real estate were the most robust sectors of our economy.  They were not fueled by big tax cuts, but by a windfall of home equity loans and other easy money. We know how that worked out.

By the end of George’s second term, the lemmings went off the cliff, and when he left Washington, unemployment was flying high at 10 percent.

So where did the money go that was to be invested?  It went to places like hedge fund and derivatives.  Places that only make the rich investors so much richer.  It does nothing to create real value for our economy.

In 2003, more American money was invested overseas than was in the U.S. Those tax cuts did in fact create jobs — in China, Brazil, India, Germany and elsewhere, but not one here.  These tax cuts have cost us $2.8 trillion.Add the cost of the wars [$1.5 trillion] and we could clean up our current crisis.

During the past days, the Republicans have said “everything is on the table” in their so-called budget negotiation — everything that is but any tax increases on the wealthiest.

Still, we continue to hear the same song:  Tax cuts create jobs!!  But obviously, in the past 10 years, they haven’t.  Unless you are looking for work in China, India………?

Update:  Cantor said today, “We’ve done our job. We’ve sent jobs bills to the Senate.”

Update:  Senate kills Rep. Jim Jordan’s Cut, Cap and Balance bill.

The lunatics seem to be in charge of the asylum.
