On this Easter holiday, on this Good Friday, let’s bury the Democrats and resurrect the Republicans Afterall, that is the mission of Durbin and the “Gang of Six.”
In this spirit I offer this: Suggestions to help Rep Ryan’s and it seems, Durbin’s budget plan.
Of course, Rep. Ryan, the chairman of the House Budget Committee, has a 10-year plan to take this country back from the poor, the uninsured, the elderly, the hungry and all the unemployed that threaten to make America a warmer Iceland. He has friends in the Democrats. Namely Dick Durbin.
But, I ask does Mr Ryan’ and Mr. Durbin’s plan go far enough in reining in this earmarked, Pell-granted and almost Food-Stamped-out nation?
No, I say, No!!!!! I do protest!!! It is not enough!!!!
Consider this: Ryan’s plan cuts only $127 billion – a measly 20 percent – of the Food Stamp program over the next decade. Rid-em cowboy, the best you can do is cut all the food assistance received by 30 American states and territories in the next 10 years?
Pulling 8 millions weankened-by-hunger, mostly poor people who don’t vote from the national bread line won’t pay for the $700 billion tax cut Congress and the president gave the richest 2 percent of Americans last December.
So let’s get real, and yank all $44 million from the line!! Let them pull themselves up by their bare toes and, when they get boots, by their bootstraps. After all, weeping Speaker John Boehner said he did it and he’s been getting a government paycheck only since 1984.
Anyway, three years of crushing recession has surely given community food pantries enough time to gear up to feed the hungriest of one in nine Americans.
This move alone saves about $620 billion, or five times more than you chicken-feed plan. My idea almost covers the entire tax cut nut for the rich in one swing. It is so sweet.
Sweet, too, are the cuts to the farm program spending that you suggested. Yes, by all means, slash from direct payments and crop insurance subsides over the coming 10 years is nothing to sneeze at. Like Boehner, you will weep and need a kleenex.
You don’t seem top know that 74 percent of all farm program subsidy money from 1995 through 2009 went to just 10 percent of all farmers. And you the only farm state person in Congress and you should know that. I am suggesting that the other none out of 10 farm program payment folks, the ones who are pocketing the remaining 26 percent of the money year in and year out….these weaning calves should be yanked from the federal, no, milk dispensing device.
Really, since these people are already subsidizing their farms with off-the-farm income — not to mention their spouse’s income, too — you, me and John Q Sucker shouldn’t be underwriting their bleak lives. That is cruel, not compassionate and not what our smart university people have been teaching us for 40 years
I say, cut crop insurance subsidies to these small operators, too. It makes no sense to these small operators too. It makes no sense top put true entrepreneurs, our crop insurance companies, at risk by trying to save those who farm only because they want to.
Cut Social Security , Medicare and Medicaid. Durbin is on your side. So go for it. Who needs its.
There is of course the billions owed us from the Marshall Plan. We could collect the money owed us over all these years, 60 years. Finland is the only country to have paid their debt. I wonder, since they have all defaulted, does that mean that we can repossess them? Think of it. New territory and increased valuation of money. The interest owned would be worth it.
Alas, no, we can’t offend our so-called friends. Better to sacrifice our own people. I am with you Durbin. Durbin has found religion. Republican religion, and wants to make ours.
Go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Mark 10:21
No that isn’t right!
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5
That still can’t be right?
Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, the tempest tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! Emma Lazarus poem
That sounds right. Durbin and his “Gang of Six” has us in our sights.
Democrats be praised. They have sold their soul for a Republican religion……..POVERTY FOR ALL!!!!!!!
